Beautiful Demon...(1)

It was a beautiful night.
The moon in its beautiful splendor..
The gentle breeze blowing.....
The whisper of the leaves...
The chirping of the insects...
The croak of the frogs....
The creaking of the open window....
It was a peaceful night....
But it didnt last long.

From the shadows, a dark figure detached.
Purposeful in its walk.
It strode with confidence.
It made no noise.
And it reeked of death.
It strode over to Gbenga's open window and slid in. Gently and silently.
It strode over to the bed where Gbenga's prone figure lay....
The moonlight hit its face and i choked back on a scream...after all, I wasnt supposed to be outside that late. It was a beautiful night and i couldnt resist, but now i wish i did.
Though its face just flashed for a brief second, It was etched into my memory.
Its face was beyond horrible. Twisted and grotesque, just like a gargoyle. Its head was oblong.
Its eyes wide and white, the iris were red with spots of gold in them.
Its nose long and curved....
Its mouth....I shuddered at the thought.....Its lips were pale, very pale and wide, curved from one ear to the other. Its teeth white and fang-like.
Its skin was white and flaky.
I closed my eyes, didnt want to see any more.
But alas, curiosity killed the cat as i could not help but wonder what it was planning to do.
With a speed that would have made a cheetah cry, it attacked Gbenga's neck. It opened its mouth and its teeth became even more pronounced. It sunk its fangs into his neck and proceeded to drain Gbenga's life source. Gbenga trashed in his bed, his eyes full of terror, pain, despair....then it started to dim, his eyes losing its light. His movements become slower, just little jerks. Then it stopped.
I couldnt breathe. I couldnt tear my eyes away from his face on which the ghost of the emotions that flitted across his face remained, his mouth open in a silent scream, the sound lost forever.
Shakily, i looked up and saw the monster who did that to Gbenga. Its lips was red now. Its skin looked rejuvenated and healthy. I looked at its eyes and was startled to see that the color had changed to a vivid gray with gold flecks.
I looked away, but not before i saw it look at me. A grin spreading across its face.
And with a sinking heart, i knew i was its next meal.

Then i woke up.
I grabbed my table lamp and jumped off the bed. My eyes darting wildly around, looking for anything that was out of place.
After several minutes, i realized that it was just a dream. I dropped shakily on my bed and gave a weak laugh.
'Whew! Your imagination is working overtime again!' I told myself.
I calmed myself down and then got ready for work.
Let me introduce myself.
My name is Victoria Badmus. I am an intern at an International company, WhizCom, Lekki. I am a computer guru and i work on developing new softwares and platform for the Whiz operating system.
I stay with a couple of other colleagues in an apartment given to us by the company.
I walk out of my room feeling ready to tackle anything the boss dropped on the desk. I walked to the kitchen, grabbed a piece of toast and a glass of orange juice.
"Bola! Cynthia!! We are going to be late! And you know how grumpy the boss can be!" I mumbled.

I walked into the living room and i stopped dead. Bola Cynthia, Segun and a couple of other friends were crying, no weeping. 'Whats wrong?' I asked
"Gbenga is dead!" wailed Cynthia...
That brought on a fresh round of weeping.
But my mind wasnt there. I was hurtling through the dark...images of Gbenga rushing through my head. Smiling Gbenga and mangled Gbenga.
"It wasnt a dream" I whispered, the glass of juice slipped from my numb fingers and broke into fragments on the floor, some cutting me, but i was lost in thought.
No....I refused to accept it...
I felt the blackness creeping in...darkening my vision.
I felt myself falling into a bottomless pit. An image popped into my mind....It was that monster. I heard a whisper...
"You are next"

TO BE CONTINUED.....
